Andrews Equipment, Inc: 47 Years Strong

Concrete Pumping - Spring 2026

Celebrating 47 years of service since 1979, this second-generation family business has built a strong reputation in pumping and conveying services throughout Maryland and the surrounding states. As a proud ACPA member since the association’s founding, the company maintains a 100 percent operator certification rate, reflecting its deep commitment to safety and professionalism.

Leadership and legacy are central to its success. Dennis Andrews, a past president of the ACPA, has been recognized with both the Pioneer and Lifetime Achievement awards for his contributions in improving the standards and culture of the concrete pumping industry — the same principles applied to Andrews Equipment, Inc.

Following in his footsteps, Danny Andrews represents the next generation of concrete pump owners. While studying at East Carolina University, he operated a trailer pump during college breaks in the family business. After earning his CDL, he advanced to boom pump operations. Since graduating in 2008, Danny has worked full-time at Andrews Equipment, Inc. and has maintained safety certification since that time. He currently serves on the ACPA Board of Directors and is active on several committees, including Membership, Safety/Certification, and as chair of the Events Committee. Through his involvement with ACPA, he met his wife, Sidney, and together they are raising three young boys.

The company continues to take on complex, high-profile projects. One notable achievement was the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge Collision Protection Project in Washington, D.C., completed in September 2024 — just six months after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in Baltimore, Maryland.

The project involved installing a massive “dolphin” — a reinforced structure designed to protect bridge piers from vessel impact and serve as a crucial navigational safety feature. Crews utilized two SCHWING 39-meter boom pumps to place 700 cubic yards of concrete. Material was pumped from the shore through 550 feet of line spanning three barges, connecting to a second pump and ultimately delivered through a crane-supported tremie pipe — demonstrating precision, coordination, and expertise.

Contributing to the success of the impressive legacy of Andrews Equipment, Inc. is their use of SCHWING concrete boom pumps like the S 39 SX, which is widely recognized as an indestructible and reliable pump; it’s the workhorse on the job site.

What distinguishes the S 39 SX is its four-section Roll and Fold® boom system. This design allows for fast setup and simple, easy use, which is critical on congested job sites involving barges and shorelines.

The pumps utilized for this project were equipped with SCHWING’s legendary Rock Valve™ system, which ensures efficient pumping of harsh mix designs necessary for structural marine concrete. The pump’s manufacturer also reports that the Rock Valve™ has low maintenance costs and provides efficient pumping.

According to the pump’s manufacturer, the combination of the Rock Valve™ and the Roll and Fold® boom makes the S 39 SX a great return on investment for any concrete pumper and is the key reason it remains a staple in the fleets of industry leaders like Andrews Equipment, Inc.
